One of the pecular chaceritstics of the human beings is to defend their preformed and crystallized thought and opinions. Everyone of us- EVERYONE!!! without exeption- has a tendency to not recognize that he had missed something and, maybe misunderstood things and situations, and this charateristic becomes from a doubt about our identity. In fact, we ”perceive” ourselves through the convinctions and informations aquired during years and years of existence.without those convinctions we feel instable, like a ship lost at the mercy of the sea wawes. Ordinary, we don’t know another method how to ”be conscious of ourselves”- butthis method, unfortunately, is not self consciousness.
This is a state of constant fear we live in every day. We fear all that come from the outside, that is seen (or felt) as a potential factor of disgregation of all the opinions we have about the life and ourselves. Such kind of mechanicity is the source of all the love conflicts, the end of friendships and all the ideological and religious war we witness in the modern world. Another harmful aspect of this attitude is the total impossibility to develop an opened and healthy intellectual growing process. The rationality developed in the last ceturies contributes to increasing the idea that we are our thought and our ideas; the con sequence of this is that we tendence to protect and justify our ideas, and that means the protection of wath we think we are (mechanical self preservation). I said that this is a tendency common to all of us, even for more of the followers of the Fourth Way System (me included); if you don’t belive to such ”theory”, then just take a look to the blogs texts and replies: be honest, ninethy percent of the replies are seems a sort of clash of ideas about this or this other concept, instead of a constructive exchange of ideas (I hope this will the case of this network, because it’s my opinion that such manifestations of self importance have any utility and are very harmful).
Another problem is that men generally think that our psycho-physical structure is stable and developed, and that they have all the necessary requirements to learn how to develop ourselves: we think we are ”complete”. But the ancient systems of self developement tell to us another story…
In different kinds of ways, whit different words, Yogis, Buddhists, Taoists, Zen, Kabbalah, Zoroatsrians, alchemists and ancient philosophers recalled and recalls even today to take an accurately and practical examination of human condition: the human being is a being in a state of evolution, and that developement is not automatic, it requires a conscious effort and a understanding of the dynamics one have to change.
Differently of the animal and vegetal realm, we have psychic, emotional and spiritual potentials who may allow us to realize and acieve higher spheres of consciousness, much different of the reallity we ordinary perceive. But this is only a possibility, a choice, because ordinary we are not educated to recognize and use our potentials, so we loose a possibility of a maybe better life. To use common and adequate terms we can call this possibility as conscius developement, because his nature can be only of a conscious source. But, such developement can’t be a sort of d.i.y. method, as many new age followers think- it’s true, we are all different individuals, but to achieve a possibility for a self growth we need an external help, because without a ”sober” and adequate system we can’t escape the mechanicity and unconscious state we experience in the everiday life.
Everyone claims his freedom, authority and control on his life, but when someone disagree with our illusory convinctions we become irritated. This is our pride. Ie.when I met the first time my mentor (teacher) he told me that I am a monkey, that everything I can do is peel bananas when I’m hungry, and the only think I do is to take my .baggage of convinctions shoot them in the toilet and start from the beginning. Likeable, isnt it? Of course my reactions were anger and frustration…but this heped me to begin to understand that maybe he was right. This is true, almost all human beings can’t administrate and have control on their life. There are many buisnissemen, artists, researcher that have many social and economic successes, and those individuals are sure that they have a total control on their life, but, what’s the price of that ”success”? in the most of cases loss of health, no private life, nervous deseases….
On the other side ther are individuals capable to create an harmonic ans calm life, a sort of ”inner spece”, a privacy, takeing care of their health and convinced to have acieved a stable emotive balance, but absolutely incapable to ”fight” for themselves, to take care of their families and achieve a minimal economical stability.
Two opposite situations, the same source.- everyone can be succesful in one or some field of their lives, but in the other field they are always victims of the accidental events. We don’t know ourselves, but the most serious problem is that we ignore this.
One of the greatest causes, the source of all our emotional pains, is our mechanicity, and this is a concept that is ignored by the majority of people. We have the tendency to have mechanical reactions when stimulated by the external situations according to well defined schemes, detemined by one’s birthplace, century, education, social conditioning and life experiencies. These are the individual reasons of our mechanicity.
There are also collective reasons concerning the humanity determined ba centuries of collective route. Ie. The common fear of the dark is an istinctive reaction present in our genetic code, and derives from ancient ages when life was put at risks as agressions by the animals, other tribes, bandits… these are all mechanical reactions typical of the man’s nature, recorded in our genetic code.
So, we act almost exclusively through reaction. Every situation makes us react in a different maneer: when one critiocize us, when we strain our habit whit coffee, for the climatic situations…almost every thing we do, feel, think during the day is mechanical. Every of those situation causes a different emotive state. And the majority of the men consider this natural. This is the mechanicity, the tendency to modify our behaviours depending by the external situations. Every action has it’s reaction.
The struggle agaist our mechanicity and loss of consciousness is one of the first and most important steps in the field of inner work. First one must realize his loss of autonomy, not only intellectualy but in practice- we react as a ”machine”. Only if realize this, we may change something.
The mechanicity is also a state of irresponsibility, a state of unconsciousness that can have very harmful consequences: in fact, in this state, we can have the most terrible reactions, as offensive language, physical violence, mobings or even homicide.
The ancient teachings use the term of Conscious Evolution to describe the possibility of de-mechanicization, and underline the necessity of a concrete system, because without such help one can’t overcome the deep state of unconsciousness and mechanicity in which he is.
