The Minos Labyrinth of our Daily Life (pondering)

A labyrinth.

In our everyday life, we have the illusory impression of perceiving reality in a concrete and objective way. We have the feeling of being stable, with a specific character, a stable point of view and a well-defined individuality. The reality is very different. What we perceive is not a life as it is, but merely a reflection of who we are. For example, if we talk to some American how’s living in Croatia or French, he’ll create a mental picture of what we explain proportionally to the ambient in which he lives, and “vice versa”. So, completely wrong.
This is the life as we live her every day: we understand the life of our neighbors starting from our own experiences and according to the construction of our personality. Unfortunately, we never see the things as they reality are, but a specular image of ourselves and our beliefs.
Similarly, we build an image and opinion of ourselves, based on the information we achieve from the outside world. Thus, a person who feels to be admired since his youth -whatever is the reason, grows through the image of the this kind of acceptance and admiration, forming a proportional view of himself. Family, the environment in which an individual grows and has his early life experiences are vital for the creation of a self image. But this is and remains only an image, so it is not reality. Every day we modify this image of ourselves, both positive or negative, based on responses from the outside world. We usually haven’t any real contact with our inner nature, we remain identified in the others opinions and perceptions, and accept them.

So, this is a double fault: in one hand we don’t know who really are, in the other we are unable to see the things as they are- we perceive them as a reflections of what we are and how we feel in a determined moment. A real and complex game where the only thing who misses is “subject” conscious of himself and the environment surrounding him.

Behind all this chaos, lies an unconscious part pushing towards the surface, a field in ourselves who makes her present felt, even if still in an confused and indistinct way. This side leads us to experience dissatisfaction, emptiness, loneliness and depression saying:”Don’t you realize you are living a life far from me, so far from yourself? Don’t you realize that you are always identified in the others opinions? Don’t you realize that, to defend yourself, you have built an illusory image of the reality in which you live, for the only purpose to stay away from this reality?”

So, why we remain astonished when we realize that in this labyrinth of situations, we lose completely the perception of ourselves and of life in general, experiencing an uncontrolled, meaningless and convulsive succession of emotions and thoughts? The only solution to escape this prison is as old as the world: “Nosce te ipsum”, “Know thyself”, so beginning a journey who could lead us to self-consciousness, discovering who and what we really are, realizing that we have the right to live and express ourselves, with passion, courage and freedom.
