”Indeed, normally, “pacifism” is a concept intended as a conditioning to desist from anything that could have a relation with violence (and notice that even this conditioning toward non- violence is a violence).“
With these words we had ended the previous post, and from here we’ll continue with a deep, diligent analysis of the topic “violence”.
Indeed, an analysis is needed; how could we change something that is unknown and continues to remain so?
Can a pacifist, who lives in a world we could define as violent, defend himself, namely preserve his existence in the matter? And of what help will he be to others? A somewhat provocative question, but let’s see the facts.
Let’s state the possibility that the Western world executes a disarmament and let’s state also the fantastic possibility that all the citizens of Western civilization would make a radical shift and become pacifists. Surely a nice perspective, but could it last? Such a society could be much too far from the “violent” laws that rule Nature, and other civilizations could be under the influence of the same laws. Could such a pacifist civilization bear a possible aggression from these civilizations? Could it last? Survive?
It’s not a theory. It has happened throughout history. Nations against nations, and often the civilizations which were ethically more advanced had vanished from the face of this planet.
The nations that are technologically more advanced are almost exclusively Western, and they represent the field of mankind on which depends most of the responsibility concerning this topic. The Western world built most of its wealth by exploiting the nations which were in weakened conditions.
It’s a consideration of the author of this text, that the west must change but this change can’t be only of a political nature, and the responsibility is too high. What is needed is a huge number of people wishing and able to change the situation. Of course, this is a utopia, at least for now. What we would point out here, is that such a shift cannot arise from the rejection of injustices and legalized violence that lies in front of everyone’s eyes.
We have to understand that willy- nilly violence is contained in every one of us, pacifist or not, and in order to create the possibility for a more peaceful world in a hypothetical future, we have to understand deeply what violence is and how it happens.
Humanity will be truly peaceful only when it acknowledges and is able to control the destructive force contained inside of itself. This is a thing that every one of us must do if we would live in a more peaceful way. A discounted statement? This writer doesn’t think so. We have to recognize such energy, control it and transform it into something new – a new power. This can be done and should be done.
My mentor, while seeing one of us angry, used to say: “You are angry. Great! Use this energy! Because anger is energy”.
Let’s observe how much anger we keep inside of us. Even the anger towards the injustices in this world- this is also anger, isn’t it? Most of people do not wish to see this, and this behaviour is very dangerous… for these people and for the people close to them. Such anger is not always the same, it grows, gradually, year after year. But we mustn’t remain on the surface of things, we have to inquire about the real causes, not to the appearences, to a momentary excess of anger. We have to understand why anger itself exists inside of us.
We have been educated to overpower and deny our desires. During such education, we’ve received every type of conditioning with the only purpose of making us remain inert inside determined limits of a structure which others had arranged for us. We live in a cage as hypnotized wolves and we think to be lambs.
It’s not the nth theory of conspiracy, it’s a fact. It’s one of the “whys” we are mechanical, the why of the sleep of our consciousness.
We have been fooled, and when this perception arises over a determined degree in our minds, what arises is rage and anger which leads to violence of every type: aggressive and subtle. This is a behaviour which grows more and more all around the world. It’s in front of our eyes, and we do not have to seek if this is true or not.
No one is exempt from this situation, he may be an executioner or a victim. Every idiot could begin to shoot at the masses on a street, and according to the law of randomness, one of the bullets could be destined for our head. How many people die in this useless way? And how many suffer?
What we have to understand, as people whose wish is an inner development, is how to transform into something creative, the tensions we keep deep inside of us. To return to the statement of my mentor, rage and anger are still energies, and the fire that arises from the depths must be noticed, observed and brought to the surface with an intelligent and constructive system. When we have an excess of anger or rage, all the energies contained in such emotions struggle toward their expression. But if we could transform them into constructive, positive emotions, the energy and strength at our disposal will be enormous, the amount of energy capable of changing all and everything, even our state of being, even our consciousness.
Ponder about this.
First of all, we must have the courage of facing totally, our dissatisfactions and the resulting anger. We have to do this without falling into the trap of some “buffer” of some excuse, seeking scapegoats: a husband, a wife, a son, the neighbour, politicians, job etc… all this doesn’t matter to this. All those persons are frustrated, conditioned and angry such as we are. They can’t act in any other way because they are asleep, such as we are.
Someone is less asleep and such persons are present in the field of politics, religion, or economics, and they use such lucidity to keep people in a sort of prison. There are not many people of this kind.. usually, a politician is as asleep as everyone else. Those “little bit lucid” people gain their power from us, as we give them such a power through believing ourselves to be lambs while we are wolves or, if you prefer, lions in a cage…. but what we have to understand is that this cage is not outside of us. The cage, the prison, is our own mind.
